Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun called his parents' story "The American Dream." Mayor Sakbun spoke with Terre Haute North seniors, leadership groups, and CEO about how his parents came to Terre Haute and saw the potential in this community. Reaching that potential, he said, comes from "giving 100% and then some."
That doesn't just happen in a community, but in each of us as individuals.
Mayor Sakbun said that selfless service and sacrifice improve not only us as people but the community that we live in and serve. "You have to be willing to risk it all," he said. He also told students that their life goals will change several times in their life. "Find your dream and answer that calling."
Students in the CEO program have heard several entrepreneurs over the past six months share stories of their giving all they have--100% and then some--making sacrifices, and risking it all to find their dream. Some experience success. Some experience failure. But, as a person they grow. When we begin realizing our individual potential, our community begins seeing its potential.
