Gabe Reed spoke to CEO students this morning. Gabe is a 2025 Vigo County CEO alum. He shared what he is studying at Vincennes University (maintenance, automation, and robotics) and how CEO lead him to that decision.
Gabe described himself when he began CEO as very introverted, lacking confidence, and uncomfortable in most class situations. His class had 7 students initially, so it was impossible for him to fade into the woodwork. Gabe shared with students today that one year ago, he was tired of feeling like he didn't belong...so he made himself do the things that made him uncomfortable.
That meant shaking hands with strangers, conversing when he didn't want to, learning more about himself and how others operate, and collaborating. He told students today that he MADE his belonging.
Every single student in class today had a question or two for him. That rarely, if ever, happens. He could relate to how it felt to be in their seat.
Gabe is so different than he was one year ago. He was always dependable, early, and hard working. However, now he has the confidence and drive to succeed.
Gabe learned to understand WHY he wants to do something before he focuses on the HOW or WHAT. He shared there is value in his knowing the "why" he wanted to change his behavior, the "why" in pursuing his business Fallen Rome, and the "why" it is okay to fail. Why makes the rest so much clearer.
Gabe told all the students in CEO, "You belong here."
