Joey O'Rourke IS the voice of the Sycamores.
Joey shared with CEO how he rose from being a basketball fan and small-town radio employee in Marshall, Illinois (his hometown) to the play-by-play guy on one of the radio stations that he now owns in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Joey's journey has not been a "laser beam."
His list of work experience includes the Terre Haute Boys & Girls Club, Pacesetter Sports, and local high school basketball announcing. Joey is all-things basketball.
Joey shared he rarely takes time off or vacations because there is so much going on with his 4 radio stations in 2 states. He said that he is always looking for ways he can do something someone else is doing--but better. He looks for ways to get involved, learn more, spot opportunities, and network, network, network.
In this day of all the streaming services available on television and subscription radio, Joey shared that broadcast radio is free. He tries to offer listeners, and now viewers, what they can't get anywhere else.
One event his website offers is free access to viewing the Wabash Valley (basketball) Classic. That became a huge offer during COVID. It is one the most successful ventures for JKO Media, his company named after him and his wife Kelsey.
Joey shared that he "loves a challenge" and works hard to grow. He left CEO students with the advice to "practice like you play."
