The CEO class event is over, but wrapping up the "business" of it, CEO met today with board treasurer Robert Stevens to go over its financials.
The event CFO and finance team maintained the records for the expenses and income of the murder mystery. Robert emphasized that in business, "Tracking your expenses is important. It gives you the true financial package."
In their records, the financial team identified the "categories" for each line item and linked receipt copies to each expense. Robert discussed how helpful programs like QuickBooks can be, especially for small businesses.
Robert Stevens brings many years of experience to the treasurer role of the Vigo County CEO program.
Working 22 years at Sony, Robert got his start at the business "next door," Columbia House. Straight out of high school, Robert began an internship that gave him much experience learning about the multiple aspects of the company. Much like CEO, his internship gave him opportunities to network and be trained.
Once he graduated from Indiana State University, Robert started with Sony (2004) where he has been a part of the transition of the business over the years.

CEO stands for Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities, and the class event this year created numerous opportunities for their entrepreneurial thinking to grow. The experiences CEO students have with their class event become valuable as they each embark on their own individual business. Record keeping is not only important for seeing the scope of their financial status, but also important for filing taxes for their businesses.
Reflecting on the class event as a whole, Robert and the class shared the SWOT, or strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, to the completed business. As they discussed, everything is a learning experience. Everything.
